Since the implementation of the aforementioned curriculum standards in 2001, the practice of art education in China has been changed immensely. One of the important changes is the teaching of Chinese culture receives gradual attention, which is reflected in three aspects. First, the domination of the national curriculum has been changed. At present the curriculum comprises the national curriculum (70 %), local curriculum and school-based curriculum; in the two latter items local folk arts act as the main teaching content with the purpose of strengthening the transmission of Chinese culture and arts.
